Postdoctoral Research Position in the field of cancer-immune-engineering
(Ref. 1190)

Mission

This project is a collaboration between the laboratory of Prof Freddy Radtke (Molecular Oncology), at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the Institute of Human Biology (IHB, https://institutehumanbiology.com/), a newly established research center in Basel, Switzerland, dedicated to advancing human biology through the use of human model systems for translational research.

We offer a postdoctoral research position (100%) to engineer a cancer immunity cycle ex-vivo. The successful candidate will leverage microfabrication and tissue engineering techniques for the ex-vivo integration of lymphatic endothelial cells, dendritic cells, B cells and T cells into a minimal unit of a lymph node (a mini-lymph node) with the goal to bioengineer the initiating arm of the cancer-immunity cycle. This includes antigen capture, antigen presentation and immune cell cross activation within the mini-lymph node.

We expect that this project will enable new experimental tools for the high-resolution dissection of mechanisms governing the cancer-immunity cycle and their translational potential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Driving force in conducting the research, develop the experimental designs and work in collaboration with the immune-engineering team.

  • Responsible for experimental design, conducting the experiment, data acquisition and critical evaluation
  • Reporting of research results in lab meetings, seminars, conferences and writing scientific articles

Profile – Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

  • PhD degree in immunology
  • Experience in designing and handling immune cells ex-vivo
  • Experience in multiparameter flow cytometry
  • Experience in tissue culture, cloning techniques and imaging
  • Language skills – good knowledge of English (verbal and writing) a prerequisite
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Capacity to collaborate to achieve common objectives
  • Good management and interpersonal skills
