Participants: Please book your own accommodation.

Arrival and departure:  Mini-courses starts Monday afternoons and finish Friday mornings. Other talks can be arranged on other periods of Mondays and Fridays.

Locality:   EPFL campus is served by several bus lines and the metro line M1.  From EPFL stop, it is a 6 minutes ride to Renens VD station ad 12 minutes to Lausanne Flon station. M1  runs every few minutes, reduces to every 10 minutes later in the day reliably till midnight. The metro from EPFL stops about between half past midnight and 5:15am. It is possible to walk into town along the shore of the lake (To Ouchy it is 1 hour).  In addition, Regional trains connecting Renerns VD to Lausanne train station — it is a 6 minutes journey. The trains runs every half hour (increases to 4 / hour during peak times). From Lausanne Flon to Lausanne station, take M2 (it is a 2 minutes ride) or walk.

Mobilis Monthly Season Ticket: Those staying in a hotel get a free travel card. For those staying in a place without tourist tax, it is a good idea to purchase a monthly travel card for Zone 12 and Zone 11 (covering the greater Lausanne area and EPFL including Renens VD station). You need to download the SBB mobile app and get a Swiss pass (Swiss pass is free, but you need to pass a train station or EPFL travel shop to get it, your passport,  and a digital photo for uploading). Two zone travel card is about 75 CHF, can be purchased after you obtained a Swiss Pass through Mobilis web site and is valid immediately. It can be used on any regular trains, metro, and buses within the travel zone.

Restaurants and Food are notoriously expensive. There are however good places at reasonable price.  Migros and Co-op has cafeterias, and from their stores packed salads, soups, meat, cheese and very good bread in general. For lunch there are good options.

Facilities: Tea /coffee, excellent quality, is available in the lecture venue. Excellent bread and pastries can be obtained from campus Migros store next door to SwissTech.  A kitchen (a fridge, microwave, kettle) is available to participants in Bernoulli center, so is a coffee / tea machine.

Accommodation:  You should book your own hotel.

Options: There are many options in  Lausanne,  Renens VD, and nearby villages. Transports in this region is punctual and well served. Three types of accommodations exist:   a room (shared or single) in a hotel,  an apartment with a kitchen, and some student rooms.

Right now we are holding a few  apartments and rooms (with price comparable with a sharing a room at designated hotel) at the following locations. Please contact [email protected] if you want one of the apartments for further instructions or link.

  1.  Studio  (with kitchen) in Sallaz, on the hills of Lausanne (possibly cooler on the hill, reachable by M1 and M2, about 30-40 minutes).  Price: 50-66 CHF for mini apartments. There are quite a number of these in the same location. Larger apartments are also available.
  2. Studio / mini apartment (with kitchen)  (about 20 minutes walk from campus, served also by bus). CHF 75-CHF90+3.7% tax (single occupancy only). We have block booked some apartments. Larger apartments are also available.
  3.  There are also ensuite guest student rooms, 5 minutes from the lecture room,  a few minutes from the lake, with shared kitchen  (they must be reserved  from Monday to Monday on a weekly basis. They are modern, clean, and basic).   These are our cheapest options but there are very limited numbers, grouped in a corridor.
  4. SwissTech is right on  EPFL metro station and close to amenities, a few minutes to lectures.  We have booked some rooms. Rooms are not large, other hotels may have better value prices or more comfortable rooms.
  5. Starling hotel is also almost on campus, further toward the lake, quieter, and also further away from amenities. It is 5 minutes walk to lectures.

  6. Many  hotels have EPFL rates. Currently their web rates are better than the EPFL rate. Web or EPFL rates have better cancellation policy (usually 24 hours) than the SwissTech rooms we blocked.

Other hotels in Lausanne near station: Hotel Elite, Hotel Crystal, Alpha Palmier. They have currently good web rates and also have EPFL rates.

Reserve at SwissTech with group rate. You can reserve a room at SwissTech by sending an email to: [email protected] and ask for a quiet room citing Summer School in Stochastic Analysis. The group rate is 130 CHF for a double room (same price either single or double occupancy), 115 for a single room (without breakfast). Two people sharing a room will be 65CHF, please mention the specifics of the room you are booking, if you have a preference whom to share a room with please indicate so. The group reservation will be no longer available, about 6 weeks before the school, by which time all reservations affiliated to group reservation become non-refundable and the unbooked room released.

You can also book with web rate which is currently very good and have better cancellation policy.  The cancellation period for EPFL rate booking is usually 24 hour (Currently all rates are the same, the web rate fluctuates more).

Hotel breakfasts:   CHF 16 for at SwissTech and 25 CHF at Starling hotel.  These can be taken without pre-booking (The bill should be settled by the guest).
