Mirko is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Hydraulic Engineering at EPFL and director of the STREEM Lab (Sustainable River Engineering, Energy, and Morphodynamics). Previously, he was a Research Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA), leading research on hydropower technology and sustainability. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering from the University of Minnesota, where he studied the interaction between in-stream hydrokinetic turbines and river morphodynamics at St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. He also earned a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy. When he’s not thinking about rivers and renewable energy, Mirko can be found road biking, hiking and camping, or chasing good live music—sometimes all in the same weekend.
