Mirko Musa, Director
Mirko is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Hydraulic Engineering at EPFL and director of the STREEM Lab (Sustainable River Engineering, Energy, and Morphodynamics). Previously, he was a Research Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA), leading research on hydropower technology and sustainability. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering from the University of Minnesota, where he studied the interaction between in-stream hydrokinetic turbines and river morphodynamics at St. Anthony Falls Laboratory. He also earned a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy. When he’s not thinking about rivers and renewable energy, Mirko can be found road biking, hiking and camping, or chasing good live music—sometimes all in the same weekend.
Sophie Bauer, Administrative Assistant
Sophie was originally schooled in biology, obtaining a B.A. in molecular biology from UC Berkeley. She then applied her interests in project coordination to the commercial and academic sector, joining EPFL as Administrative Assistant in 2017. This allows her to dedicate her free time to singing, playing and writing music. Her other interests include literature, Fiat Abarths and various DIY projects.
