Lausanne
Lausanne is a medium sized Swiss city with a population of 150,000 on the lake of Geneva, one of Europe’s most beautiful and pleasant spots.
If you are planning to visit to Lausanne or other parts of Switzerland you might find it helpful to check out the Official Tourist Site of Lausanne. If you want to move around within Switzerland it is convenient to take the train.
Leysin
The third day of the workshop will be held in the mountain resort of Leysin (http://www.leysin.ch/en/). The full conference registration will include transport from Lausanne to Leysin on Friday evening, and lodging at the venue.
Getting There
Lausanne is only 60km from Geneva international airport. The direct train connection (four per hour) from the city center to the airport takes 45 minutes. The train also provides easy connection to the rest of Switzerland and Europe (Zurich: 2:30hrs, 2 trains/hour, Paris:4hrs, 4 trains/day, Milano: …)
From Geneva-Airport to Lausanne by train
After passing through customs, turn to your left and walk through to the end of the building. Go through the revolving door, which will take you straight into the railway station. Buy your ticket for Lausanne at the counter on the opposite side of the hall or at the automatic machine (credit card or Swiss francs cash accepted). The one-way train ticket in 2nd class costs: chf 25. 1st class costs: chf 43.
For Lausanne, check on the departure panel above each track. The journey to Lausanne lasts approx. 45 minutes (all trains stop first at the Geneva Main Station).
The city has excellent public transport with an extensive bus and metro system. All hotels in Lausanne, upon request, will provide a free pass valid for the public transportation network of Lausanne for the duration of your stay (you can use this pass on the Metro M1 which connects downtown to EPFL). Don’t forget to ask for it !
