Adrian Ionescu named Ambassador for the ERC

The European Research Council (ERC) and the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG) launched the new Ambassadors for the ERC network on 28 April 2025. School of Engineering professor Adrian Ionescu is one of 32 grantees selected and nominated as an Ambassador.

Yujia Zhang, head of the new Lab for Bio-Iontronics in the School of Engineering, is exploring a new frontier in biomedicine with dropletronics: droplet-based systems that use ions as signal carriers to interface seamlessly with biological tissues.

Soft brainstem implant delivers high-resolution hearing

EPFL researchers have developed a flexible auditory brainstem implant (ABI) that closely conforms to the curved surface of the brainstem. The technology has been successfully demonstrated high-resolution “prosthetic hearing” in macaques.
