Collaboration with China
Paolo, Ambrogio, Jean-Philippe and Prof. Minh Quang Tran (for the youngsters: the SPC director before Ambrogio), traveled to ASIPP (Institute of plasma physics, Chinese academy of Sciences) in Hefei where they were warmly received. They could see the impressive advancements in the construction of BEST. Possible collaborations between EUROfusion, SPC and ASIPP were discussed and research avenues of mutual interest were identified. In the next months, the follow up of this visit will be discussed internally at the SPC.
New progress in our Breeding Blanket research
We are pleased to announce that SPC has been selected by Eurofusion to analyze Breeding Blanket R&D activities in the EU and non-EU countries. This is an important step in our ongoing efforts to develop research initiatives in the field of Breeding Blankets. We’re also happy to announce that we’ve been able to involve the EPFL’s Laboratory of Reactor Physics and System Behavior (LRS) in pushing forward this new field. This opportunity represents a key strategic step toward broader engagement in Breeding Blanket development at both European and global levels.
EUROfusion backs all TCV WPTE enhancement projects
Following a call of the EUROfusion issued this summer, SPC submitted 7 multi-annual TCV projects to the consortium. All 7 proposals have been accepted for funding. Most of the projects are about to be launched.
- Collective Thomson Scattering (CTS) diagnostic for TCV (in collaboration with DTU, led by Laurie)
- Upgrade of the TCV LHPI antenna (coordinated by Joan)
- Runaway Electron Mitigation Coil for TCV (led by Umar)
- Runaway electron mitigation and velocity analysis by magnetic-ripple manipulation
- New 100-Hz Laser for the TCV Thomson Scattering System (led by Benjamin)
- Implementation of the 4th dual-frequency gyrotron for TCV (led by Jérémie)
- Upgrade of the TCV ECRH high voltage power supply (led by Damien)
Improving our communication
SPC Direction has recently identified several priority areas to improve both internal and external communication. These priorities are based on the outcomes of workshops held two years ago, where the community had the opportunity to provide feedback on areas needing improvement. Currently, several working groups are being formed to address these goals.
