Inside a Molecular Beam Epitaxy reactor, different materials are used to make a few atoms thick layers on the substrate, using molecular beams in an ultra-high vacuum environment. Some elements only need an effusion source cell to be sent in a particle beam, and some will need more processing steps like in the valved cracker source cell because of their unique physical properties.
