Overview

***NEW: Please see our new tool CloneMap here (short user guide coming soon)***

We manage and distribute several large collections of ORFs:

  • The “ORFeome Collaboration” (OC). Untagged human ORFs. Promoterless, but ready for shuttling into Gateway expression vectors.
  • The “CCSB-Broad Lentiviral Expression Library” (CB-Lenti). Gateway-compatible, CMV promoter-driven, V5-tagged human ORFs, ready for expression by lentiviral vector transduction or simple transfection.
  •  Small -but growing- collections of human and murine of ORFs, called CAHOS (“Collection of assorted human ORFs“) and MOUSAIC (Mouse ORFs assembled in a collection) respectively. We assemble these from different sources to fill in the gaps of our main ORFs collections. When possible we favor Gateway-compatible constructs.

Key points regarding these collections:

  • Overall our collections currently represent ~13’400 unique human protein-coding genes. According to recent estimates, the human genome contains 19’000-21’000 protein-coding genes.
  • Our collections often include several ORFs for a given gene, typically different isoforms or natural variants.
  • If you want to share ORFs with GECF, please contact us.
  • For tips about searching and browsing the collections, please see HERE.
  • If a gene is missing from our collections, we propose several solution for obtaining them. More details HERE.
  • Some ORFs in commercially-available collections either do not represent canonical isoforms, or contain potentially deleterious SNPs, or are truncated/mutated. More information on how we can help with that HERE.
  • Most of our clones are inserted in vectors compatible with the Gateway system (Invitrogen), allowing easy shuttling of ORFs across collections or towards new Gateway-compatible vectors (list of available Gateway expression vectors HERE).
