Materials Cloud

MaterialsCloud is a virtual research environment for materials science, providing open access to data, software, and computational resources. It aims to accelerate the discovery and design of new materials.

Scala Center

Scala Center is a non-profit organization established to advance the Scala programming language and its ecosystem. It focuses on education, research, and community development to promote the use of Scala in industry and academia.

DeepLabCut

DeepLabCut is an open-source software tool for markerless tracking of body parts in 2D and 3D, primarily used in the field of animal behavior research. It allows for accurate and efficient tracking of multiple body parts in video data and deep learning-based image analysis.

Discontinuation of negotiations with Wiley: No deal situation

— The negotiations between swissuniversities and the publisher Wiley, which have been ongoing since early 2024 , have not concluded in an acceptable Read & Publish agreement that could satisfy all conditions while meeting swissuniversities' requirements (prices, contractual terms). This no deal has several implications for members of EPFL community.

Research data: Choosing the most suitable storage solution at EPFL

— To support researchers in making informed storage decisions, the EPFL Library Research Data Management (RDM) team, in collaboration with the Information Systems Department (DSI) and the IT services of the School of Life Sciences (SV Faculty IT), has created a dedicated webpage. This resource provides an overview of the available storage solutions at EPFL, highlighting their key features, security levels, and recommended use cases. A comparative table is also available to help researchers quickly evaluate and select the most suitable storage solution.

EPFL reveals key trends and challenges in Research Data Management

— EPFL has released the results of its 2023 Research Data Management (RDM) survey, providing key insights into how researchers manage their data and code. Conducted by the EPFL Library RDM team, this biannual survey helps to identify evolving practices and needs to improve institutional support. Previous editions were conducted in 2017, 2019, 2021 and their results remain available for consultation.
