The Plasmacoustic Metalayer is an electroacoustic transducer capable of moving the surrounding air without resorting to a membrane. It can interact with sound waves as a broadband active sound absorber, outperforming conventional solutions at low-frequencies while only a few cm thick.
The concept is an ideal candidate for active acoustic windows, as it is transparent to light. The project will investigate new active ways of improving double-glazed windows soundproofing in the low-frequency range.
