Summary
The Fluid geopoetics DATA is based on the project Obscure territories and “negative geopoetics” of UNIL and on the EPFL-SNF Sinergia project Crowdsourced conceptualization of complex scientific knowledge and discovery of discoveries. The “negative geopoetics” examines landscapes focusing on splits and rifts, like waste-lands, landscapes of natural or sociogenic catastrophes, abandoned GULAG camps, various types of wetlands, junk-yards, waste deposits, squats, abandoned houses. We are especially attentive to circulation, to moving masses rather than stable points: communication and public transport networks, «no-places», transitional places, forbidding terrains. These intermediate, ephemeral, transitional ‘topoi’; unstable and fluid items, escaping a clear or positive identification, negative, absent, problematic, hidden, ashamed, catastrophic, failed, forgotten, abandoned, repressed places of the liquid Modernity present a challenge and an interesting case for an automated treatment. The project will make a new step in application of the power of Computer Science semantic technologies and methods of complexity science to the field of humanities.
