Finance and Technology Conference 2023 on Decentralized Finance

Wednesday, April 26, 2023

Venue: Starling Hotel, EPFL

During this conference we aim to shed light on what works and what does not in decentralized finance and how to build trust in it. We will discuss the way forward for socially and economically sustainable DeFi and what the next generation of DeFi may look like. Inevitably, the question whether more regulation will stifle or stimulate innovation, whether it may lead to a level-playing field that enhances security, compatibility between established and emerging players as well as consumer trust will arise. What are the key trends around the globe that influence an inherently interconnected market? What are the most promising options at hand?

This event is organized jointly by the Finance and Technology Programme and the Center for Digital Trust, EPFL, in collaboration with The Enterprise for Society Center (E4S).

Finance and Technology Conference 2021 on Crypto-assets and Asset Tokenization

Friday, November 5, 2021

Venue: SwissTech Convention Center, EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland

Distributed Ledger Technology has the potential to reshape the traditional financial system. An example is decentralized finance, which allows people to combine open-source building blocks into sophisticated financial products utilizing DLT. Central banks, as another example, face growing competition from private actors offering their own digital alternative to physical cash. However, the current lack of clear legal and technological standards prevents market players and institutions from fully exploiting the potential DLT.

This conference features latest research and insights on crypto-assets and asset tokenization, and their impact on banking and financial market infrastructures. The event combines a broad spectrum of stakeholders, which combine legal and regulatory, technological, financial and economic as well as civil society perspectives. It addresses academics and practitioners alike, and shall foster the public dialogue and interaction across institutions.

This event is organized jointly by the Swiss Finance Institute @ EPFL and the Center for Digital Trust, EPFL.

Swissquote & EPFL Day on Quantitative Finance 2011

Friday, April 19, 2011

Financial markets alternate between still and highly volatile periods. In attempts to predict this erratic behavior, market players have been developing a myriad of algorithms supposed to increase their wealth or predict financial crises, giving rise to Quantitative Finance (QF).

Two schools of thoughts have co-starred QF since its debut: the academics’ and the practitioners’.

The Swissquote & EPFL day on quantitative finance is a day for discussions and exchange of brand new ideas between representatives of both worlds.

Homogeneous versus heterogeneous, rational versus irrational, data versus axioms, and of course modeling, will be key-words of this encounter.

Reading group

Venue: Extranef, room 109, Lausanne, Switzerland

At every meeting of the group, one of the members will present a paper of his choice in an informal way, followed by discussions.
