Summary
The number of Legionella infection cases is increasing almost every year in Switzerland and many other developed countries. Legionella bacteria can grow in hot water pipes and be transferred to the people by breathing in the contaminated water droplets. Therefore, the standards oblige the building owners to keep the hot water temperature high enough to ensure Legionella can not grow in the hot water tank and pipes. However, the increasing number of infections indicate that there is a gap between standards and practice. The point of hot water delivery (faucets, shower, etc) is known as the best place for Legionella disinfection. INNOWAL project aims to develop an innovative device for eliminating the risk of Legionella at the point of use.
