Security & Privacy

Security and privacy are essential to an increasingly connected world of devices and agents. EPFL research covers an extensive set of theoretical and practical topics in this broad space. Our labs research the underlying mathematical principles and applications of cryptography; the foundations of secure and privacy-preserving machine learning; techniques to secure and verify large and complex software codebases; or the principles to design secure and privacy-preserving systems based on decentralized architectures (e.g., blockchains and cryptocurrencies). We also develop technologies particularly oriented to preserve privacy and security in particular domains such as health and humanitarian assistance.

Our research feeds many knowledge transfer initiatives, for example startups founded or advised by IC faculty members. Moreover, the Center for Digital Trust aims at fostering collaboration with industrial partners.
