Master Project (Applied physics)

The Master project lasts 17 weeks + 1 (holiday) at EPFL or 25 weeks + 1 (holiday) outside EPFL. It is placed under the responsibility of a Professor or a Senior Scientist (MER) affiliated to the physics section. Rare exceptions possible.

Fall semester : Official dates: 9th September 2024 to 10th January 2025 or 7th March 2025 (25 weeks). If necessary, it is possible to move the start date between the 29th July and 16th December 2024.

Spring semester : Official dates: 17th February to 20th June 2025 or 15th August 2025 (25 weeks)

If necessary, it is possible to move the start date between the 6th January and 26th May 2025.

If you wish to graduate in 2025, you must hand in your report by 26th September 2025 at the latest and the oral defence must take place on Monday 29th September 2025. If it takes place later, you will receive your ‘paper’ diploma in 2026, but you will be able to print a certificate stating that you have completed your Master’s studies.

Note that on the first day of your master project, you must not have more than 8 credits missing to be allowed to start it. In this case it will be a conditional Master project and you will have to take 8 credits maximum during your thesis. The workload will not be reduced!

Registration

Deadline to register on IS-Academia: Friday 20th September 2024 / Friday 28th February 2025

Register on IS-Academia, fill in the fields, save it and print the PDF registration form (icon next to “save”). Have the form signed by the professor responsible for your Master’s project and bring/send it to me. The title can be changed until the oral defense.

NB : Completing a Master project in a company exempts students from an internship in industry (for students doing a minor or taking 30 credits of additional courses).
