Prerequisite
Before using an EPFL software, it is mandatory to check if its use is compliant, here is the regulation.
The tool to verify and validate the use of an EPFL software is here.

The installation V5-6 2018 requires the following
- Windows 10 64-bit Pro, Education, Business
- Swiss-French OR
- Swiss-German OR
- US
Windows Home Editions does not work!
- For Students, a network access by VPN on a yellow network socket
- A minimum of free disk space of at least 8 GB
- Preferably a Video Graphic Card without shared memory
- Firefox as default browser

Preparation
In case of an update, make sure that they are installed and that the computer has restarted.
You must uninstall your old versions of CATIA from your computer before proceeding with the new installation!
The automatic installation has been customized to install CATIA on the root disk C.
You must verify that you have at least 6GB of free disk space on drive C.
We strongly recommend that you are connected to the wired network (yellow network sockets, cables and VPN for students)
Mounting the network share as disk « I »
- Double click on Computer to open explorer
- Click on Tools and choose Map network drive. The following window opens to connect a network path as a local drive.
Below are the steps to follow:
- Drive → Choose the local drive to mount the network share → I:
- Folder → the UNC of the server →
\\stisrv.epfl.ch\app
- Uncheck the option “Reconnect at sign-in”
- Check the option “Connect using different credentials”
- Click on finish and authenticate in the next window. For students and personnel:
INTRANET\username (with your Gaspar password)
- Click on OK and then on finish to complete the process
Mounting the second network share as disk « R »
Proceed the same way as for disk « I » but with the following parameters:
- Drive → Choose the local drive to mount the network share → R:
- Folder → the UNC of the server →
\\stisrv.epfl.ch\CATIA
- Check the option “Reconnect at sign-in”
- Check the option “Connect using different credentials”
- Click on finish and authenticate in the next window
- Click on OK and then on finish to complete the process
After these steps, you should have the two disks mounted on the machine as follows:
Find the installation file on drive « I »
Open disk I: and follow the path I:\cad\ibm-dassault\
Installation of CATIA
Note that you should have both drives I: and R: mounted on your PC to properly install CATIA
Open the folder v5r6, then the folder 2018 and double click on “catiaV56R2018sp3” following each prompts and instructions of the installation wizard carefully.
We recommend that you use explorer to find the path of the installation files
You can also start the installation directly from the search programs and files prompt (Click on Start –> search programs and files) and enter the following
I:\cad\ibm-dassault\v5r6\2018\catiaV56R2018sp3.cmd
When the installation is completed, do not forget to reboot your PC.

Start of the installation
Entering the network password:
For students and personnel:
INTRANET\username (with your Gaspar password)
End of the installation
Using CATIA
Note that the disk R: should always be mounted when you are using CATIA.
Students and mobile users should have the VPN connected.
The personnel is authorized to use CATIA in their laboratory.
To use the english version of Catia, you need:
- Set the region Format in English
- Use the environement shortcut CATIA V5-6R2018_ENV
