Laboratories

Flexible Sstructures Laboratory (FlexLab)

Our research focuses on embracing mechanical instabilities of slender structures toward devising, understanding and exploiting novel functional mechanisms, over a wide range of lengthscales.

Laboratory for Advanced Fabrication Technologies (LAFT)

The Laboratory for Advanced Fabrication Technologies (LAFT) focuses on several highly interdisciplinary research thrusts.

Laboratory of Intelligent Systems (LIS)

The Laboratory of Intelligent Systems directed by Prof. Dario Floreano explores future avenues of artificial intelligence and robotics at the convergence of biology and engineering, humans and machines.

Laboratory for Soft Bioelectronic Interfaces (LSBI)

We are a multidisciplinary group at the cross roads of engineering and biology. Our research explores materials, technology and integration of soft bioelectronic interfaces or electronics skins. We design and characterise stretchable materials and devices, and implement them in ultra-compliant circuitry and soft biointerfaces.

Micro BioRobotic Systems Laboratory (MICROBS)

The mission of MICROBS laboratory is to develop the science and techniques of microrobotics, where materials science and NEMS technology meet robotics creating the next generation intelligent systems operating in complex microenvironments.

Reconfigurable Robotics Lab (RRL)

At the Reconfigurable Robotics Lab we focus on the design, actuation, fabrication, and control of unique robotic systems. The research in our lab is committed to inventing interactive robotic systems with novel fabrication techniques and integration processes that push the limits of mechanical properties.

Soft Materials Laboratory (SMAL)

We introduce bio-inspired drop-based processes to fabricate microstructured polymeric materials that we optionally stiffen through their targeted mineralization. We characterize their structure-local composition-mechanical property relationship and exploit possibilities to use these materials in the biomedical field and as soft actuators.

Soft Transducers Lab (LMTS)

We develop reliable soft stretchable compliant actuators, sensors and transducers. Our research cuts across different miniaturized actuator technologies, with a primary focus on elastomer-based solutions and multi-functional stretchable materials.

Supramolecular Nano-Materials and Interfaces Laboratory (SuNMIL)

SuNMIL is a vibrant group of researchers that combine multiple backgrounds and integrate various disciplines to create and investigate novel materials that tackle the experimental investigation of supramolecular interfaces.

Translational Neural Engineering Lab (TNE)

The TNE Lab develops effective neurotechnologies to restore sensorimotor function in people affected by different kinds of disabilities. We seek to translate neuroscience findings into clinical practice.
