Join Us for the Second Edition of the Lemanic Life Sciences Hackathon!

After a successful inaugural event 2024, the Lemanic Life Sciences Hackathon is back for its second edition!

Organized by EPFL School of Life Sciences, EPFL AI Center and Idiap, this event brings together clinicians, life scientists, and data scientists to test ideas, drive innovation, and tackle real-world challenges in healthcare and research.

Call for Projects: Clinicians and Life Scientists

Are you a clinician curious about how AI could transform your practice or research? Or a life scientist with valuable data that could unlock groundbreaking discoveries? We want to hear from you!

We invite project proposals that:

  • Address biological or clinical questions that can benefit from AI and data science approaches.
  • Involve anonymized or public datasets that can be mined for innovative science, even if you don’t yet have a specific research question.
How to Propose a Project
  • Submit Your Idea: Share your project ideas (with or without data) or describe available datasets for review.
  • Selection: A panel of experts will evaluate and select the most promising projects.
  • Hackathon: If selected, you’ll collaborate with interdisciplinary teams over two days to develop cutting-edge solutions.
  • Showcase: Present your work to fellow participants and judges, with the chance to win prizes and recognition.

Hackathon Goals

  • Forge interdisciplinary long-term collaborations: Build partnerships between clinicians, scientists, and data experts to drive change in healthcare and research.
  • Empower the Next Generation: Train young clinicians and researchers to incorporate data science into their careers. We welcome students and beginners! Hackathons are perfect for skill development, offering hands-on learning in coding and design, as well as networking opportunities with mentors and potential employers.
  • Unlock the Power of Data: Leverage biological data to uncover insights that could reshape healthcare and research.
  • Strengthen the Ecosystem: Foster collaboration between EPFL, Idiap, and other institutions, laying the groundwork for  innovation and interdisciplinary approaches.

What to Expect

  • 3 Days of Innovation: Immerse in a friendly and collaborative atmosphere where teams develop impactful solutions.
  • Project Pitches: Project leaders will pitch their ideas and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for refinement. Teams will present their outcomes at the end for a chance to win prizes.
  • Expert Mentorship: Gain insights and guidance from experienced professionals in life sciences, clinical research, and AI.
  • Conference: Hear from industry and academic leaders how healthcare and AI and learn are converging to adress global challenges.

Tentative Planning

Day 1:  Project Introduction and Hacking  (Wednesday, April 23)

  • Morning: Kick off the event project introduction session where project leaders present their ideas and challenges and the data sets. Optional introduction and guide to Google Cloud and other tools.
